A man who was vaping on board a train to Manchester racially abused a fellow passenger who asked him to stop, police have revealed.
British Transport Police says it has launched a hate crime investigation in response to the incident.
A CCTV image of a man officers want to speak with has also been published, as the force issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It happened on board a train from Horwich Parkway to Deansgate station in central Manchester in May, but details have only just been released.
Police said the victim, a man, was also ‘lunged at’ by the man who went on to abuse him.
In a statement, a BTP spokesperson said: “Do you recognise this man? Officers are today releasing a CCTV image following a hate crime incident on board a train from Horwich Parkway to Deansgate station.
“The incident occurred on Friday 17 May at around 9.20am when the victim asked a man sitting opposite to stop vaping. The man responded by lunging towards the victim and making a racist comment.
“Officers would like to speak to the man in the image who they believe may have information that could help their investigation.
“Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 193 of 17/05/24. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
