Mets promote RHP Jonah Tong to Double-A Binghamton

The Mets have promoted another one of their young arms.

Less than a month after they promoted Brandon Sproat to Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets are now promoting right-handed pitcher Jonah Tong to Double-A Binghamton, officially announced by a news release from the Rumble Ponies on Sunday.

The promotion comes after Tong has dominated both levels of Single-A ball. The 21-year-old pitched to a 6-4 record and a 3.04 ERA in 21 starts this season. But it’s his strikeouts that are very impressive.

He struck out 36 batters over 18.2 innings with Port St. Lucie before going up to Brooklyn and sitting down 110 batters across 85 innings.

Tong, the Mets’ No. 10 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has had five eight-plus strikeout games including two in the double-digits with the Brooklyn Cyclones. He’ll now put his stuff to the test in Double-A.
