Passenger dead, driver hospitalized after vehicle overturns in ‘serious’ crash; police investigating

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a “serious” deadly crash around a vehicle overturned in Tampa Sunday morning.

The crash occurred at around 11:47 a.m. at E. Hillsborough Avenue and N. 11th Street, police said.

Officials said the vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Hillsborough Avenue near N. 12th Street when, for an unknown reason, the driver veered from the roadway, striking a utility pole, and landed on the roof of the car.

Two victims were found in the vehicle, the driver, a man in his late 70s, and the passenger, a woman in her late 70s.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to officers.

Police said the driver did not show any signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
