On Saturday, just before midnight, police were called to Macon Road near Lake Shore Road where somebody heard what they thought might be gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles with bullet holes in them and two people inside each car suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to Piedmont Hospital where 16-year old Daryus Bryant died from his injuries.

The other victim, Clarence Flavors, was rushed into surgery. There is no word on his current condition.

The Meriwether County School System identified Bryant as one of their students. Bryant was a student at Manchester High School.

The district said Bryant’s untimely passing caused concern and raised questions within their community, but they remain committed to supporting each other during the challenging time.

“Daryus was an exceptional young man who excelled both in athletics and academics,” the district wrote.

The district also noted another student was injured, but their identity was not released.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Courtney Francisco spoke to Bryant’s father Cartarsman who is also a coach at the High School. His father is pleading for someone in Columbus to come forward and help solve the mystery of who shot his 16-year-old son who he said had a bright, bright future.

“He had three or four college offers to go play football,” Cartarsman said. “I mean, he had a bright future ahead of him, and for it to be taken away with a senseless act like that it’s just mind-blowing and it just devastates you.”
