The Prince of Wales has broken his silence on social media following his wife Kate’s cancer diagnosis. William penned a message about his beloved Aston Villa Women’s football team following the news forward Rachel Daly has retired from international football.

The 32-year-old, who has 84 caps, was part of the England side that won Euro 2022. William shared a post from Rachel announcing her retirement.

He wrote: “Thank you for so many unforgettable performance with @lionesses, @racheldaly3. Plenty more goals for Villa now!”

The statement was made on the Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account on Wednesday, Aril 10. Rachel announced her retirement from international football saying: “I would love nothing more to play for England for ever but the time has come for me to hang my boots up on the international stage.

“While today is an extremely difficult day for me, it’s also one filled with reflection and immense gratitude. Playing for and representing England has been a privilege.”

Prince William is expected to return to public duties after the Easter break when Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis return to school. Kate announced she had been diagnosed with cancer on March 22.

She is undergoing preventative chemotherapy. While it remains unclear how long Kate will be undergoing treatment, it is believed that she may wish to attend events as and when she feels capable, in accordance with medical advice. However, this does not signify a return to her full-time duties.
