After shutting down two Kansas City area locations, Red Lobster says it wants to close two more.

The company filed for bankruptcy in May and shuttered dozens of stores across the country, including ones in Olathe at 14904 W. 119th St. and Kansas City, Kansas, at 10700 Parallel Parkway.

Now, Red Lobster intends to close several more, if the court approves its bankruptcy plan, according to reporting from CNN.

Locations in Overland Park at 9475 Metcalf Ave. and Independence at 4328 S. Noland Road were among dozens the company says it wants to close. That would leave only two in the Kansas City area: 450 N.W. Barry Road and 670 N.W. Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit.

The chain said it had more than $1 billion in debt and less than $30 million on hand, CNN reported.

Red Lobster did not respond to The Star’s request for comment Friday.

Founded in 1968, the seafood chain is known for its cheddar biscuits, coconut shrimp and lobster. The company’s decision last year to offer more all-you-can-eat shrimp promotions helped lead to a quarterly operating loss of $11 million, according to the New York Times.
