King Charles today gave a personal insight into his battle with cancer as he revealed he has lost his sense of taste.
The monarch, 75, was speaking to British Army veteran and cancer survivor Aaron Mapplebeck while visiting the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, this afternoon where the pair discussed the side effects of treatment.
When Mr Mapplebeck said he had lost his sense of taste during chemotherapy last year, the King said this had also happened to him.
Charles arrived by helicopter for the special ceremony with Prince William where he officially handed over command of Prince Harry‘s former regiment.
Meanwhile, a war of words has erupted between Harry and the King’s camps over last week’s Invictus Games Foundation event which neither Charles nor William attended.
“It’s all very sad,” said a friend of Charles, according to The Times. “While he was hardly going to roll out the red carpet the moment this Invictus trip was announced, with doctors advising him to focus on his treatment and recovery, the idea that he refused to find space in his diary…Well, let’s say recollections may vary once again.”
A friend of Harry’s hit back: “Could His Majesty not have made a request to see his son? It was widely known he was coming.”

The monarch, 75, was speaking to British Army veteran Aaron Mapplebeck while visiting the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, this afternoon.
When Mr Mapplebeck said he underwent chemotherapy last year to treat a testicular cancer diagnosis and that he had lost his sense of taste during the process, the King revealed this had also happened to him.
The Palace has not yet confirmed details of the King’s cancer or treatment.

A young deaf woman has become the first person to deliver a British Sign Language (BSL) speech at Buckingham Palace in front of thousands of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award recipients.
Hafwen Clarke, 19, from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, told about 2,000 other recipients how she achieved the gold award, alongside Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Ms Clarke, a youth helper at St John Ambulance Cymru, said: “I’m very proud to be here so I can show the world what deaf people can do.
“Deaf people can do anything hearing people can do, except hear. We may communicate in a different language, but we are still able to communicate.

The King said it was a “great joy” to meet servicemen, their families and veterans at an earlier visit to the Army Flying Museum.
He unveiled a plaque commemorating an Apache AH Mk.1 going on display, the first of its kind to be installed at a UK museum.
The aircraft was one of four involved in a rescue mission during the Battle of Jugroom Fort in 2007.

The Duchess of Sussex, says it has been “humbling” to find out through a genealogy test that she is partly Nigerian as she met women in the West African nation on Saturday.
On her second day in Nigeria, where she is visiting for the first time with the Duke of Sussex to also promote mental health for wounded soldiers and young girls, Meghan acknowledged Nigeria as “my country”.
She added: “It’s been eye-opening to be able to know more about my heritage.”
“Never in a million years would I understand it as much as I do now. And what has been echoed so much in the past day is, ‘Oh, we are not so surprised when we found out you are Nigerian’,” she said at the event on women in leadership co-hosted by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian economist and head of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
“It is a compliment to you because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, beautiful,” Meghan told the audience.
The duchess had announced on her podcast in October 2022 that she found out through the DNA-based test that she was “43% Nigerian”.

Differing reports as to whether King Charles offered to meet Prince Harry or vice versa in the last week have been attributed to the lack of co-ordination between the King and Harry’s PR teams.
Royal historian Dr Judith Rowbotham told i: “There is no real connection between their [Sussexes’s] PR team and the King’s PR team because that would be constitutionally improper.
“If they were acting together you could create a situation where the King would be ignoring government restraints.”
In 2020 the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stood down from frontline royal duties, meaning they are no longer “part of the state structure,” according to Dr Rowbotham.

The Queen has attended the final day of the Badminton Horse Trials and presented trophies to prize winners to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the event.
Camilla, as patron of British Equestrian, watched the final show-jumping phase of the competition in Gloucestershire and then presented trophies in the arena.
She met guests associated with the trials, including representatives of the British Equestrian Federation, past winners of the competition, as well as volunteers and officials involved with this year’s event.
Images showed the Queen chatting with beauty entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury and the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, Rose Hanbury. She was also seen watching the trials in the grandstand, sitting next to the Duke of Beaufort, Henry Somerset.
A member of the Beaufort Pony Club presented Camilla with a book detailing the trials’ 75-year history and an anniversary model horse.

Fortnum & Mason, the luxury department store, is among the first organisations to be granted a royal warrant by the Queen, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Camilla has appointed seven royal warrant holders which have also received the accolade from the King.
They include Cornwall-based sparkling wine producer and Shane Connolly, the florist for the couple’s 2005 wedding and their Westminster Abbey coronation.
Businesses holding a royal warrant , which is granted for up to five years, are recognised for providing goods or services to the monarchy, and are allowed to use the coat of arms of the royal they are associated with on packaging, as part of advertising or on stationery.

Meghan Markle has opened up about a touching conversation she recently had with Princess Lilibet on the first day of her whistlestop tour of Nigeria.
The couple arrived to a warm welcome in the country this morning (10 May) to begin a three-day tour as private citizens to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The Sussexes attended an event at Nigeria Unconquered on Saturday – day two of their three day trip to Africa.
The duke also attended an event in the Armed Forces Complex in Abuja.

King Charles is still “wary” about meeting Prince Harry after his son’s exit from the royal family and the “media circus” surrounding visits, a friend has said.
The friend also rubbished the idea that the monarch could not find time to see Harry on his short trip to the UK last week.
“It’s all very sad,” Charles’s friend told The Sunday Times. “While it is true that the King is understandably wary about meeting with Harry, given the publicity circus that seems to surround all such visits, he did of course agree to see his son at the most vulnerable moment of his illness [in February], and at very short notice.
“While he was hardly going to roll out the red carpet the moment this Invictus trip was announced, with doctors advising him to focus on his treatment and recovery, the idea that he refused to find space in his diary … well, let’s say recollections may vary once again.”

The King reportedly agreed to a request from Prince Harry to stay in a royal residence for his trip to the UK last week.
Charles agreed because he was mindful that his son no longer has an official residence in the UK, The Sunday Times reported.
But Harry decided to stay at a hotel during his three-day visit, the paper said.
