Search for missing swimmer off Sanibel enters third day

The search for a missing swimmer near Sanibel Island that prompted response from local and state authorities has entered its third day.

Officer Bradley Johnson, spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, on Tuesday said they were assisting the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Sanibel Police with the search for a missing swimmer at Blind Pass Beach.

While Sanibel police is leading the search, Jessie Santero, spokesperson for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, said they have been assisting with multiple marine assets and aviation units.

Eric Jackson, a city spokesperson, said two swimmers were rescued while the search continued for a third swimmer. He declined to identify the missing swimmer.

Friends on social media identified the missing teen as a North Fort Myers High soccer player.

The two rescued swimmers’ condition remained unavailable Thursday morning.
