Drivers can reduce their fuel consumption by pressing a button. Motorists who are filling up at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s amid rising prices at the pumps can save cash by pressing a button which is found in most cars.
TikTok channel @Autocentrics has told BP, Esso, Texaco and Shell drivers to switch their car into economy mode if they can do so. @Autocentrics said: “With the cost of fuel going up and up and up these days. It’s time to start to look at how maybe we can make it go a little bit further.
“In lots of new cars, you will find a drive selector mode button. And pushing this as well as there being more interesting things like a sport mode, there is economy. Which will help reduce fuel consumption by making the throttle a little less responsive and just generally slowing gear changes and stuff like that.”

Car Shop added: “Most modern cars are fitted with an ‘eco mode’ that reduces throttle responsiveness and engine power output, in turn using less fuel. On automatic cars, it will also shift up earlier to keep the vehicle in the most economical gear which is calculated from the engine load.
“By using this mode you can save around five per cent of fuel.” Many modern cars have an eco mode setting to improve the vehicle’s fuel economy. While it’s on, the engine reduces its power output, so it doesn’t work as hard, and the gas pedals become less responsive.
The reduction in power leads the car to accelerate more slowly. But consumerreports warns: “Eco mode is not a magic button that will instantly save fuel. Its true value rests in its ability to encourage frugal driving behavior that can make a difference.
“We have seen in other tests that driving smoothly can make a 2 to 3 mpg improvement around town, compared with an erratic driving style.
