HARRISVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a truck crashed into an overhead bridge in Medina County Friday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on U.S. Route 224 near the U.S. 42 ramp in Harrisville Township.

According to state troopers, a 2006 Kenworth T6 Series tractor-trailer carrying an oversize load was heading east on 224 when it hit a sign and the bridge deck of the U.S. 42 overpass.

The driver, 43-year-old Deshawn Johnson of Texas, wasn’t injured.

“Through the investigation, it was deemed that Johnson was off his ODOT approved permit travel route and to also not have a lead vehicle with a height sensing device,” ODOT said in a press release.

Johnson faces charged including reckless operation, a permit violation and over dimension.

After an examination, inspectors confirmed the bridge suffered “significant damage” in the crash, according to OSHP.
