Wood Creating 100 New Positions with New TotalEnergies Deal

In a release posted on its website this week, Wood announced that it has been awarded a new $46 million, three-year contract by TotalEnergies in Iraq.

The company outlined in the release that, as part of the deal, Wood will provide front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed design, procurement support, and construction and commissioning assistance for the first phase of the Associated Gas Upstream Project (AGUP).

AGUP is part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) in Southern Iraq, Wood pointed out in the release, adding that the GGIP includes the recovery of gas currently flared in the Basra region to supply power generation plants, along with the construction of a seawater treatment unit and a 1GW solar power plant.

The contract will be delivered by Wood’s teams in Basra and Dubai, creating 100 new positions, Wood noted in the release. The company highlighted in the release that it currently employs over 1,300 people in Iraq and the UAE.

When Rigzone asked Wood what kind of positions will be included in the 100 new roles, a company spokesperson said, “roles include project manager, project engineer, lead technical safety, lead process engineer, planners, and administrative positions”.

“Wood is committed to investing in the growth and development of our national workforce in Iraq,” the spokesperson added.

In the release, Shaun Dewar, Wood’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Middle East and Africa, said, “we are proud to support TotalEnergies on this project, which aligns with our shared commitment to pursue a secure and sustainable energy supply”.

“We have a long-standing history of delivering engineering and consulting services in the region and this contract reaffirms our reputation for excellence,” he added.

“This project will improve environmental sustainability through emissions reduction efforts. As part of this agreement, Wood will also continue to invest in local employment and skills development in the Basra region,” he continued.

TotalEnergies has made no mention of the deal on its website, at the time of writing.

In a release posted on its website earlier this week, Wood announced that it had completed FEED scope for the first phase of Saudi Aramco’s Accelerated Carbon Capture and Sequestration (ACCS) project in Saudi Arabia.

Wood highlighted in the release that this project is “expected to be the world’s largest carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) hub, upon completion”.

The FEED was delivered by around 200 engineers from across Wood’s global Projects and Consulting business units, Wood revealed in the release.

Back in May, Wood noted in a release that it had been awarded a new decarbonization contract by TotalEnergies (TEPUK) to support flare gas recovery in the North Sea. Led by Wood’s team in Aberdeen, this contract will see the company create 40 new positions on and offshore, Wood stated in that release.

In February, Wood said in a release that it had secured an $80 million contract extension with Equinor to deliver maintenance and modification solutions to their Peregrino offshore assets, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Wood noted in that release that the reimbursable contract is supported by 500 employees.

In a release posted on its site back in January, Wood said it had recorded “excellent growth in the Middle East region, securing $850 million in contract wins in 2023”.

“Due to Wood’s success in the region and to support further growth, the company recently recruited over 700 new employees and is currently recruiting 500 roles with more expected throughout 2024,” the company noted in that release.

Wood describes itself as a global leader in consulting and engineering across energy and materials. The company recruits 35,000 professionals across 60 countries, according to its website.
