A Dallas high school is closed Friday after two football players were injured in a drive-by shooting near the school Thursday night, officials said.

Dallas Independent School District officials announced on social media shortly before midnight Thursday that classes at Roosevelt High School of Innovation were canceled “due to a credible threat.”

Roosevelt football coach Terrence Lowery and two sophomore players from the school were headed home after practice when someone pulled up beside them and started firing into their vehicle, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported. Lowery immediately headed back to the school and called for help.

The shooting took place near the Cedar Crest Golf Course, about a mile away from 525 Bonnie View Road where the school is located.

The player in the backseat was shot in the neck, and the player in the passenger seat was wounded in the shoulder and arm, according to WFAA. Lowery was shaken up by the incident but not injured. A bullet also went through one of the headrests in the vehicle.

Police told WFAA that the teens were transported to Methodist Hospital in stable condition and their injuries were not life-threatening.

The shooting suspects are still at large and no description is available, WFAA reported.

District officials said they would share an update when more information became available and requested that students and staff “refrain from coming to campus” Friday, according to the post.

The drive-by shooting comes the day after an 18-year-old student was fatally shot on the campus of Bowie High School in Arlington. A 17-year-old student was arrested and faces a murder charge. Arlington police said Thursday they were still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

A student at a Wilmer-Hutchins High School in southeast Dallas was hospitalized April 12 after being shot in the leg by another student in a classroom. The injured student is expected to survive, and the suspected shooter was taken into custody.
