ISLAMABAD: The federal government has sacked Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar. Dost Muhammad Mazari, Deputy Speaker, Punjab Assembly has been appointed Acting Governor, Punjab.
According to details, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said in a recent tweet that the federal government has removed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar from his post.

He said in his message that the name of the new governor of Punjab would be announced later. According to the constitution, the deputy speaker would be the acting governor. Journalist Fereeha Idress in a tweet revealed that; The sacked governor was helping the opposition.

Government sources said that Muhammad Sarwar was opposing Pervez Elahi for the post of Chief Minister. Government sources further said that Muhammad Sarwar was campaigning in support of Punjab Chief Ministerial candidate Hamza Shahbaz. Pervez Elahi telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and complained about this. Taking note of the matter, Prime Minister Imran Khan advised President Arif Alvi to remove Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar.
It may be recalled that Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar had assumed the office of Governor of Punjab in 2018. He had earlier been the Governor of Punjab under PML-N.
