A Cambridgeshire branch of Marks & Spencer is set to shut within weeks. The retailer is set to shut 67 shops in total across the UK with a change in focus to food stores.

This will see the brand moving away from its current format which includes home and clothing ranges, according to InYourArea. The M&S branch at Queensgate in Peterborough is set to close on April 20, the company has confirmed.

Approximately 247 branches of Marks & Spencer offer more than just food, with that number set to decrease to 180 by 2028. More than 100 M&S Foodhall sites are set to open over the coming months and years.

Nine more shops will follow the Queensgate closure, including:

  • Neath, Wales – May 2024

  • Aberdeen, Scotland – 2025

  • Weymouth – exact date to be confirmed

  • Sunderland – exact date to be confirmed

  • Walworth, London – exact date to be confirmed

  • Hexham – exact date to be confirmed

  • Bradford – exact date to be confirmed

  • Ilford – exact date to be confirmed

  • Blackburn – exact date to be confirmed

Peterborough M&S shoppers will still be able to visit nearby stores at the Brotherhood Shopping Park and Serpentine Green. Regional manager Craig Burton said the closure is part of adapting to changing shopping habits and ensuring the right store presence.

He said: “Shopping habits are changing, so we’re rotating our store estate to make sure we have the right stores to offer customers. In recent years, we have invested over £31m in our stores in the East of England and we look forward to working with the local council to bring forward plans for further future investment into Peterborough and the wider local area.”
