Coronation Street hunk Alex Bain, who plays Simon Barlow, is reportedly struggling to leave the ITV soap behind after 15 years and wants bosses to bring his character back

Coronation Street favourite Alex Bain is reported to be desperate to get his job back on the soap after being axed. The Simon Barlow actor starred on the ITV show for 15 years before his exit from the cobbles last year. He’d first claimed it was his decision to quit but it was then reported that the decision was out of his hands – and he’s now “begged bosses” to bring his character back.

Alex, 22, has apparently been “putting on a brave face“ and is “emotional” about his role coming to an end after spending a large portion of his life as part of the Corrie cast. The star joined the programme when he was aged just seven and he’s already shot his final scenes.

A source said: “Alex has been putting on a brave face saying he quit the show but in reality bosses decided it was time for him to move on.“

The source added to the Sun: “It’s been incredibly emotional for Alex and he really doesn’t want to leave at all. He’s been begging bosses to keep him in mind for the future. He wants to go back already.“

It comes after the dad-of one recently, as reports the Mirror, celebrated his time on the show with his former co-star, Jacob Hay actor Jack James Ryan, who hailed his young colleague as an ‘icon’.

Jack, 28, shared a picture to Instagram stories which featured the stars posing along with two female friends as he said: “15 years is no joke. An icon for so many & a brother of mine. we love u @alexbainofficial.”

Alex reshared the post, replying: “Love ya too man! thank you to everyone who came last night. It was an absolute blast!”

Alex is reported to be departing after a bombshell storyline is screened in the summer. In March, he appeared to suggest to fans on Instagram that he was preparing to wave goodbye to Weatherfield as he posted a dressing room snap alongside the caption: “Well my day is done! Nice and short day today! I’m gonna miss this little space some dearly when I go!”

The actor went on to write: “So glad I’ve got some shooting days left! So thankful!”

The Sun claimed in December that Alex, who became a dad in 2018, was “very excited” to move on from the show after a range of big storylines over the years, which saw him scoop the British Soap Award for Best Young Actor in 2011 as well as another gong in 2014 at the Inside Soap Awards.
