Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has confirmed her character’s daughter is set to join the show shortly after it was revealed she now had a permanent place on the cobbles.
The actress was first seen in the ITV soap back in 2021 when she led the police investigation into the assaults on Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin which led to the latter’s death.
More recently, viewers have seen Swain face backlash from Daisy Midgeley after the police failed to stop her stalker Justin Rutherford. He launched a horrific acid attack on her wedding day and was seen hunting down serial killer Stephen Reid back in October; only for him to be ploughed into and killed on the street by Peter Barlow.

But the no-nonsense character is now investigating the disappearance of Lauren Bolton, which she has since turned into a murder investigation with beloved cafe owner Roy Cropper her key suspect.
Previously sharing how she feels about being back on the cobbles, Vicky told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s always a joy to get that call but I think in particular this time, once the scripts landed and I knew the storyline…
“Because Swain had often mentioned or in particular in the Amy Barlow storyline about consensual sex about how she’s passionate about violence against women, so then to see this progress through this storyline and also to work with so many different characters, to get the opportunity to work with David Neilson again because we briefly worked together when I first joined with the hate crime storyline, is a real joy. But to also come back here, what’s not to love.”
Addressing details that viewers may not know about Swain, Vicky says the character has a teenage daughter and is gay. But as for whether there’s someone on the street for her, the actress teased: “I think for Swain, she perhaps has seen somebody whose caught her eye but she’s far too busy focussing on this investigation and her career, being a single mum and a home life as well.
“And I think if anybody out there has got teenage daughters they’ll quite understand what I’m saying with that. To portray that with authenticity and to be creatively challenged like that is brilliant and I’m very thankful to be given this massive opportunity.”
But now, Vicky has revealed that she expects Swain’s personal life to be explored. In a new interview with TV Times, as reported by Digital Spy, the soap star revealed: “[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that.
” We’re in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it’s fair to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – she’s feisty, opinionated and educated. It’s going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she’s gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?”
