David De Gea issues three-word update on his future as ex-Manchester United star makes guarantee

David De Gea has provided an update on his future after leaving Manchester United in the summer. The 33-year-old goalkeeper left Old Trafford at the end of last term following the expiration of his contract and, almost a year later, he’s still yet to find a new club.

Despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove award in his final season with United, De Gea has struggled to generate much interest in his services. The Spain international has been briefly linked with numerous teams over the last 10 months but no club has secured his signature.

De Gea has been working closely with a personal trainer and appears to have maintained his fitness levels though should a club come calling. Taking to social media, the Spaniard has likened himself to the ‘Terminator’ and suggested that he’ll be exploring his options in the summer ahead of a return.

He posted a picture of himself in action in training at, what appears to be, a local non-league ground. De Gea partnered his image with a ‘Terminator’ GIF which reads: “I’ll be back.”

Speaking to CaughtOffside earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the shot-stopper’s future. The journalist said: “A former Man United player, David de Gea, has been linked by some Spanish outlets with a possible move to Real Betis, but I honestly have zero updates about this – it’s still all quiet.

“De Gea remains open to consider options ahead of a summer move, but at the moment I’m not aware of anything agreed with Real Betis.”

Upon leaving Manchester United, the Spaniard detailed his ambition to ‘undertake a new challenge’ – which suggests he’s ruled out a return to Old Trafford. De Gea said: “I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years.

“We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt. To lead the team, to represent this institution – the biggest club in the world – was an honour only bestowed upon a few lucky footballers.

“Now it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.”
