Jamie Redknapp has called Alejandro Garnacho “sloppy” for the role he played in Manchester United falling behind against Bournemouth.
Erik ten Hag’s team travelled to the South Coast with the risk of slipping further away from European qualification. Newcastle United’s victory against Tottenham earlier on Saturday meant they leapfrogged the Red Devils into sixth in the Premier League standings.
But United made a difficult start at the Vitality Stadium when Dominic Solanke put the hosts ahead, capitalising on the visitors’ attempting to play out from the back. Justin Kluivert also bagged for the Cherries before the break, with goals from Bruno Fernandes either side of Kluivert’s strike ensuring both sides took home a point.

Providing analysis for Sky Sports, Redknapp was not particularly impressed with three United players for the roles they played in conceding either goal. For the first, it was Garnacho‘s misplaced pass that put 19-year-old Willy Kwambala under pressure against 17-goal striker Solanke.
“Willy Kwambala gets caught first of all in a foot race, then he tries to out-muscle him. Then, you have to try and stay on your feet and he just gets twisted up. A lot of players can slip and especially against Dominic Solanke who is in good form,” the pundit said.
“Garnacho has been sloppy in the first half, but the skill and the way he chops it inside him, and then that finish.
For Bournemouth’s second, the United defence stood off Dutch winger Kluivert before he beat Andre Onana at his near post.
Redknapp added: “I think Harry Maguire could potentially get across a bit quicker to help his mate. He doesn’t, he hesitates but it was a brilliant individual goal and shows you the levels he is playing at right now.”
As recognised by Redknapp, Garnacho had made amends by playing a critical part in Fernandes’ close-range leveller. However, Ten Hag decided a change was necessary at half-time, and so the Argentinian made way for Amad as the players emerged for the second half.
