King Charles has shared his determination to recover from cancer, it has been revealed. The monarch shared the sentiment in letters with friends as he remains optimistic through his treatment.

It comes after the 75 year old was diagnosed with the disease following a prostate operation earlier this year. Buckingham Palace is yet to confirm the exact time of cancer that the King is being treated for.

He returned to public duties this week after taking time off for treatment. The King was joined by Queen Camilla at London’s Macmillan Cancer Centre where he met with patients.

In a touching moment he told chemotherapy patient Lesley Woodbridge, 63: “I’ve got to have my treatment this afternoon as well.” When quizzed about his health, he told one patient: “I’m alright thank you very much, not too bad.”

The King had expressed his “determination” to beat the disease himself in letters which were shared with The Times. He wrote of his “somewhat battered health”, friends said, adding they were also “full of light”.

One recipient claimed Charles described his “determination” to battle through his illness, while another said his writing was “full of exclamation marks” when detailing of his optimism of a full recovery, The Mirror reports.

The King has always been an avid letter writer, and famously does not own a mobile phone in favour of keeping in touch with pen and paper. According to friends, the King is described as being like a “caged lion” and frustrated by his cancer diagnosis because he’s got so much more to achieve.

Prince William remains concerned for his father’s health as he continues to work through his treatment, it has been claimed. A source close to the Prince said: “He wants to make sure his father is balancing his recovery. He knows his dad loves work, but he does worry about him.”
