Late Queen’s dresser ‘sparked war’ with King Charles over ‘inappropriate’ photos

Photos of the late Queen Elizabeth, which allegedly incited a dispute between King Charles and her former stylist Angela Kelly, are raising quite the scandal.

Charles reportedly had a bone to pick over what he considered ‘inappropriate’ snapshots of his mother. Angela, who was also a personal confidant to the late Queen, included the pictures in her 2019 publication The Queen, The Dresser and the Wardrobe.

The pictures, taken during a Royal Collection photo session, show the Queen in an uncharacteristically relaxed pose with her hands in her pockets.

Angela noted: “Her Majesty started striking a series of poses, slipping her hands in and out of her pockets and placing them on to her hips, mimicking the stance of a professional model.”

This informal display did not sit well with her eldest son, reports the Mirror. In the book ‘My Mother and I,’ Royal author Ingrid Seward said: “It was enough to incur Charles’s wrath. He thoroughly disliked what he considered was taking advantage of her good nature.”

It was reported that tension between Charles and Angela was far from uncommon. The Royal couturier made her first appearance at court in 1994 before ascending to Personal Assistant and Senior Dresser in 2002.

After the passing of the Queen, Angela promptly left her dwelling in Windsor Home Park – supposedly fuelled by Charles’ directive.

However, according to Valentine Low’s book, Courtiers, there were those who wished for Angela Kelly to vacate her grace-and-favour home, with negotiations leading to the suggestion that the King purchase her a property near Sheffield.

An insider stated: “Angela wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but nevertheless the King had no wish to see her homeless. I get the impression that the King just didn’t want to be living next door to her.”

Despite this, Angela received the honour of Commander of the Victorian Order alongside Paul Whybrew and Terry Pendry in the Demise Honours List. Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, Angela poignantly expressed her sorrow on Instagram: “I will never forget you. I will always love you. I miss you my friend [heart emoji],” later adding: “I miss her, you will always be in our hearts [heart emoji].”

Angela Kelly’s notable contributions include recreating the 1841 christening gown, worn by Royal babies such as Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Her creations also include the Queen’s primrose-yellow coat for the Royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, and the remodelling of Princess Beatrice’s wedding gown for her marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
