Meet the 24-year-old who makes £70,000 a month reselling household items, laptops and coffee machines. Entrepreneurial Luke Williams started selling old mobile phones on eBay while working on a building site – as his salary didn’t cover his bills.

He branched out to source household items – like bleach, deodorant and washing-up liquid – from wholesalers and sell them on Amazon at a higher price in June 2021. Luke started making £1,000 a month from his side hustle, but after his earnings increased to £30,000 a month in 18 months he quit his job as a builder in January 2022.

In his first 12 months Luke raked in £180,000 profit and now earns £70,000 a month selling electronics like computers, laptops and TVs. Luke’s earnings mean he has been able to pay off his £17,000 Mercedes Benz, fly business class to Abu Dhabi and reinvest in his business.

Luke, from Bristol, said: “My business has changed a little bit. I have moved onto electronics – TVs, laptops, coffee machines.

“I am selling those alongside my usual household items. You can shift fewer units and get more sales, instead of selling 1,000 deodorant sticks you can sell 100 coffee machines and get more money.”

Luke graduated in June 2020 and started working on a building site. But he quickly realised he wasn’t earning enough money to pay for all his bills and started selling on eBay – making an extra £1,000 a month within three months.

He said: “I just wasn’t making enough money. I came across Amazon FBA – a program that lets you outsource order fulfilment to Amazon – and realised I could buy from wholesalers and sell on the app too.

“What I sell ranges from air fresheners, meat grinders, phones, kids’ toys and changing mats. Thornton’s chocolate is really popular at the minute.”

In his first year of trading Luke made £180,000 reselling household items like soap, deodorant and toothpaste.

He added: “I started out by buying old phones from Facebook and reselling them on eBay. I only wanted to make an extra £1,000 a month as it would help me with the extra payments I had.

“I went to university, studied building and surveying and went to work on a building site. I did that for about a year. I started selling on Amazon in June 2021.”

In November 2023 Luke started selling electronic items alongside his household items and has been making £70,000 a month since then.

He said: “The change in products has helped massively. In sales I have turned £70,000 a month compared to what I was doing. I have been reinvesting everything into the business.”
