Mar. 31—23 N.M. high school seniors selected as 2024 Daniels Scholars

The Daniels Fund, a scholarship program for students across the Mountain West established by cable television magnate Bill Daniels, has announced its 2024 class of Daniels Scholars. Twenty-three New Mexico students made the list.

Local Daniels Scholars include:

* Jamie Chavez, New Mexico School for the Arts

* Olan Macejka, Santa Fe High School

* Marco Otero, Mandela International Magnet School

* Ceciliana Ruiz, St. Michael’s High School

* Erica Tillery, Moriarty High School

Daniels Scholars receive the full cost of attendance at certain universities in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming or up to $100,000 over four years at colleges outside the region to pursue an undergraduate degree.

“We are thrilled to support the educational aspirations of this tremendous group of young people,” Hanna Skandera, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund, said in a news release. “They represent the next generation of leaders and we can’t wait to see the amazing things they will accomplish with this opportunity.”

Early childhood department invites child care directors, providers to participate in Child Care Cost Survey

The Early Childhood Education and Care Department is looking to learn the true cost of quality child care — from child care providers.

The department has invited child care facility owners and directors across the state to participate in its second Child Care Cost Survey, which informs the state’s child care assistance rates.

“New Mexico is making significant investments in child care because we understand that the cost of quality child care is out of reach for most families, and that providing quality care is essential to improving outcomes for young children and their families,” Early Childhood Education and Care Department Secretary Elizabeth Groginsky said in a news release announcing the opening of the survey.

To participate in the survey — which is available in English and Spanish — visit prenatal5fiscal.org/newmexico. The department will also hold input sessions with providers in English, Spanish and other languages as requested.
