Tiffany Haddish Pleads No Contest to Reckless Driving for Thanksgiving Holiday Arrest

Tiffany Haddish pleaded no contest to reckless driving stemming from her arrest that occurred in Los Angeles over last year’s Thanksgiving holiday.

The Girls Trip actress, 44, had her two misdemeanor charges dropped after taking a plea deal following her arrest last November, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Haddish appeared in person on Thursday and entered a no contest plea to a violation of Vehicle Code section 23103 and 23103.5, commonly known as “wet reckless.” the statement read.

A DUI charge can be reduced to “wet reckless” charge as part of a plea deal, and does not trigger an automatic drivers license suspension like a DUI would. It is a misdemeanor charge.

In a statement obtained by TMZ and Rolling Stone, Haddish’s attorney Alex Spiro wrote, “Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation – not driving under the influence, which has been dismissed — and looks forward to this being behind her.”

The Haunted Mansion actress was placed on summary probation for one year. She was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and enroll in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s Victim Impact Program.

Tiffany Haddish

Her legal complications stem from an arrest on Thanksgiving weekend after she allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of her Tesla.

After officers with the Beverly Hills Police Department found the comedian at approximately 5:45 a.m. local time on Nov. 24, she was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and a misdemeanor count of driving with .08% blood alcohol content.

The previous night, Haddish had been performing at The Laugh Factory in West Hollywood in celebration of the venue’s 43rd annual free Thanksgiving feast for the community event.

Once she was released later that same day, Haddish performed at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, and poked fun at the situation, stating, “I had prayed to God to send me a man with a job, career, preferably in a uniform, and I answered my prayers,” according to a recording obtained by TMZ.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Nov. 27, Haddish said the situation “will never happen again.” She said her Tesla parked itself after she fell asleep.

The actress claimed to be in “good spirits” following the incident, and told the outlet, “I’m going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.”
