A 72-hour ‘mini heatwave’ is on the horizon, bringing temperatures of up to 20C. It will be a far cry from the showers and heavy winds that have hit over recent weeks.

Maps show a brief period of high pressure over the UK at the end of this week that will bring some relief from the unsettled conditions that have hit the country, reports The Mirror. Then, there is likely to be another warm spell again next weekend.

After Thursday (April 11) BBC weather forecaster Helen Willetts saying it is set to feel “warm” over the following 72 hours . “We might see some brighter skies and sunshine coming through before the next source of rain starts to materialise across western parts again. But look at the temperatures on Thursday it’s looking mild, in fact warm in strengthening April sunshine,” she said.

“And that milder warmer Atlantic air is within through Thursday and indeed Friday to end the week and perhaps even to start the weekend but not full on as we get some colder air starting to dig in behind it as you can see. And so by the weekend or by the end of the weekend it’s a return to slightly cooler weather.”

The BBC’s temperature charts from the BBC show that it could reach 20C on Friday in London. maps from NetWeather and WXCharts have a similarly mild outlook for sunshine at the end of this week and again for the following weekend.

Locally, according to the Met Office online report for our area, we can expect to see highs of 18C as this week draws to an end with some sunshine. There is no long range forecast for next week as yet.
