Twitter in Nigeria is back after 7 months

Twitter in Nigeria was banned for the past 222 days. As per the Nigerian Government official, We have lifted a ban on Twitter from midnight (12 January 2022) after Twitter agreed to open a local office, among other agreements with local authorities in the country. Twitter also agreed to pay an “applicable tax” and establish a legal entity within the country in the first quarter of 2022.

 

Twitter was banned in Nigeria on 4 June, 2021after Twitter removed the post of President Muhammadu Buhari. director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency said in a statement that President Buhari had given the approval to lift the ban on Twitter. He further said in a statement;

 

Twitter has agreed to act with a respectful acknowledgment of Nigerian laws and the national culture and history on which such legislation has been built.
