Yury Fedotov former Russian diplomat died at age 76
Russian diplomat Yury Fedotov died in Austria at the age of 75, Russian News agency was told at the Permanent Mission of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna. Fedotov died on Thursday at 2:00 in the hospital. “A prominent Russian diplomat, former Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador to the UK,” the permanent mission noted.
They added that for almost ten years – from 2010 to 2019 – Fedotov was the executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
Fedotov was born in 1947 in Sukhum. In 1971 he graduated from MGIMO, after which he worked in the Soviet embassies in Algeria and India. From 1993 to 1999, he worked at the Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN in New York, then headed the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2002-to 2005 he was Deputy Foreign Secretary, and after that, until 2010 he worked as Ambassador to the UK.
